Overview:
We are working with a leading global loss adjusting practice with a strong reputation for handling large, complex and technically demanding property losses across the UK, to appoint a Major & Complex Loss Adjuster into their specialist team.
This is a senior field-based role focused on the end-to-end management of high-value and complex commercial and domestic property losses, typically ranging from £250,000 through to multi million pound claims. You will be involved in some of the most challenging and high-profile losses in the market, including industrial fires, large-scale commercial property damage, catastrophic escape of water events, storm and flood losses, construction-related collapse, and complex business interruption (BI) claims.
The role sits within a highly experienced MCL function, working alongside chartered adjusters, forensic accountants, engineers, and specialist consultants, with responsibility for driving technical strategy, quantum assessment, and insurer reporting on complex, often multi-party claims.
Role Responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of major and complex property losses from first notification through to final settlement
- Lead investigations into cause, origin, and extent of damage, often involving multi-disciplinary expert input
- Oversee large-scale site inspections, including commercial premises, industrial facilities, residential blocks, and specialist risks
- Analyse and interpret complex policy wordings, endorsements, and coverage issues, including aggregation and subrogation considerations
- Prepare detailed technical reports, reserving recommendations, and insurer updates on high-value exposures
- Manage and coordinate a network of specialists including forensic accountants, structural engineers, fire investigators, building surveyors, and environmental consultants
- Drive quantum evaluation, scope validation, and reinstatement strategy across significant property losses
- Lead negotiations with insureds, brokers, loss funders, and corporate stakeholders to achieve commercially sound settlements
- Provide input into business interruption calculations, mitigation strategies, and claims projections
- Support litigation, arbitration, or mediation processes where required, working closely with legal representatives
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements, market protocols, and insurer service standards
Experience Required:
- Circa 5+ years’ experience in loss adjusting or complex property claims handling
- Strong background in commercial property and/or major domestic losses essential
- Proven experience handling high-value claims (£250k+ up to multi million) and technically complex perils (fire, flood, subsidence, collapse, BI exposure)
- Confident operating in multi-party, high-pressure claims environments with senior stakeholders
- Strong technical understanding of policy interpretation, coverage analysis, and quantum assessment
- Experience working with or alongside forensic accountants and technical experts highly desirable
- Dip CILA or equivalent professional qualification preferred (or working towards chartered status)
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and report writing skills
- Full UK driving licence required
What’s on Offer:
- Opportunity to work within a market-leading Major & Complex Loss division handling high-profile and technically challenging claims
- Exposure to large commercial, industrial, and catastrophic loss events across multiple sectors
- Collaboration with highly experienced chartered adjusters, technical specialists, and forensic teams
- Strong technical infrastructure and support from industry-leading experts in quantum, causation, and BI analysis
- Clear progression pathways into Senior MCL, Technical Specialist, or Leadership roles within the adjusting function
- Hybrid working model with significant autonomy over field-based investigations
- A high-performance environment known for its technical excellence, market reputation, and complex claims capability
