What you will be doing:

In this role, you’ll support the commissioning of first of class electrical power and distribution systems for the next generation Dreadnought submarines. You’ll work closely with Engineering, Build Operations, the Royal Navy and MOD to ensure all commissioning activities are delivered safely, compliantly and to the highest technical standards.

Core duties:

  • Carry out commissioning and testing activities with limited supervision in a high-risk environment
  • Liaise with Engineering, Royal Navy, MOD and Build Operations teams to ensure activities are completed safely and compliantly
  • Research, author and review design and test documentation
  • Maintain full and accurate records of all work activities in accordance with policy, procedure and legislation
  • Support and mentor less experienced team members within your area of expertise
  • Represent the company during Factory Acceptance Tests, offsite testing, contractor sea trials and other outworking activities, including potential overseas travel
  • Deliver assigned activities in line with company policy, procedures and legislative requirements

Essential Skills:

  • Knowledge of AC and DC electrical generation and power distribution systems
  • Experience working with electrical distribution systems, fire protection systems and electrical testing
  • Understanding of instrumentation systems including Electrostatic Discharge, Low Voltage Control, Data Communications, PLCs and Fibre Optics
  • Knowledge of safety controls and procedures within a high-risk environment
  • Awareness of Nuclear Site Licence and Authorisation Conditions
  • Understanding of how Test & Commissioning contributes to the wider business and UK defence enterprise

The Electrical Commissioning Team:

Join the Electrical Commissioning Team responsible for commissioning the first of class electrical power and distribution plant on the Dreadnought submarine programme. The Dreadnought Programme will deliver four SSBNs to the Royal Navy, supporting the UK’s Continuous At Sea Deterrence (CASD) capability. Relocation support packages are available across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
