Job Title: Planning, Design and Civils Lecturer – Further Education (Permanent)
Location: Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire
About the Role / Job Summary: A leading further education college in Buckinghamshire is seeking a Planning, Design and Civils Lecturer to shape the next generation of construction and infrastructure professionals. You will join a collaborative construction department that values high-quality teaching, effective use of digital tools, and strong employer engagement to deliver real-world learning. You will plan and deliver engaging, industry-aligned teaching across planning, civil engineering, and the built environment, ensuring learners develop technical knowledge, practical skills, and professional behaviors for progression into employment or higher study.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver lessons, workshops, and project-based learning across planning, design, surveying, and civil engineering aligned to awarding body and apprenticeship standards.
- Develop high-quality learning materials and use digital tools, including VLEs and classroom technologies, to enhance delivery and assessment.
- Set clear targets, track progress, and provide timely feedback to support achievement for all learners.
- Design and facilitate assessment activities, practical assignments, and end-point assessment preparation in line with quality assurance requirements.
- Integrate health, safety, sustainability, and current building regulations throughout the curriculum.
- Embed English, maths, and digital skills within vocational delivery.
- Maintain strong links with employers to inform curriculum, secure work-related projects, and promote positive destinations.
- Contribute to quality improvement, standardization, and internal verification where appropriate.
- Support safeguarding, welfare, and inclusion, liaising with student support services when necessary.
- Participate in curriculum planning, open days, and learner recruitment activities.
Qualifications:
- Level 3 or higher vocational qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction, Built Environment, or a closely related discipline.
- A recognized teaching qualification such as PGCE, CertEd, or Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training, or willingness to work towards one.
- Assessor and/or Internal Quality Assurer awards (e.g., TAQA/A1/V1) advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of industry standards, building regulations, and health and safety.
- Proficiency with CAD/BIM or similar design and modeling tools preferred.
Education Requirements:
- Minimum Level 3 vocational qualification required.
- Higher-level qualification such as HNC/HND or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Built Environment preferred.
- Evidence of ongoing CPD within the construction and infrastructure sector.
Experience Requirements:
- Industry experience in planning, civil engineering, construction design, or site engineering.
- Experience delivering training, mentoring, or coaching in workplace or education settings desirable.
- Ability to design and deliver learner-centered sessions for mixed-ability groups.
- Experience of assessment, quality assurance, and working with awarding body standards desirable.
- Confident use of digital learning platforms and classroom technologies.
