This alternative provision is looking to recruit a creative and committed Teacher for English who has the drive and passion to embrace our vision and who is committed to the highest achievement for all.
Core purpose
To achieve success, the Teacher of English will effectively teach English and Literacy to secure the highest possible levels of progress and attainment. They will promote excellence, equality, and high expectations for all students, effectively and efficiently deploy resources to achieve the academy’s aims and evaluate individual performance while identifying priorities for continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
The role includes contributing to academy self-evaluation and improvement planning, using data and information to inform strategic planning and identify improvement targets, and supporting academy leadership. The teacher will analyse student performance in the subject and devise strategies to improve standards. They will also establish, with the line manager, plans for developing and resourcing the department to support continuous improvement in teaching and learning and promote student achievement. Monitoring progress towards targets, setting expectations, and tracking student achievement are key responsibilities.
Teaching and learning
The teacher will manage resources efficiently to support effective teaching and learning. They will ensure all students are catered for regardless of ability, and will develop students’ communication, literacy, and numeracy skills through the subject. Awareness of developments across Key Stages 2, 3, 4, and 5 is expected. Lessons should be adapted based on evaluation of student progress, and appropriate interventions should be identified. The teacher will set effective homework and extension work to engage learners and will ensure differentiation and personalisation for all students.
Assessment and evaluation
The role involves establishing and implementing clear practices for assessing, recording, and reporting student achievement in line with academy policy. The teacher will monitor pupil standards and achievement against annual targets, track progress across the department, and lead the implementation of intervention strategies to ensure outstanding student progress.
