We’re working with a friendly and inclusive primary school in Sunderland that is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Worker with BSL skills to support a hearing-impaired pupil. The school is known for its nurturing approach, strong community feel, and commitment to ensuring every child has the support they need to succeed both academically and socially.
This role is about much more than classroom support. It’s about helping a young learner feel confident, included, and able to fully engage in school life through effective communication and tailored support.
What you’ll be doing:
- Providing 1:1 support for a hearing-impaired pupil using BSL
- Helping the pupil access lessons, classroom discussions, and school activities
- Working alongside teachers and the SEND team to create an inclusive learning environment
- Encouraging independence, confidence, and positive social interactions with peers
- Supporting the pupil’s communication needs throughout the school day
What we’re looking for:
- BSL Level 1, 2, or 3 qualification
- Experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential
- A patient, positive, and adaptable approach
- Excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for supporting children
- Someone who can build strong relationships and act as a positive role model

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
