We are currently engaged on behalf of a leading global hedge fund seeking to appoint an L/S Healthcare Equity Analyst to its European investment team.
This is an exciting opportunity for an intellectually curious investor with a passion for healthcare and a proven ability to generate differentiated investment ideas across both the long and short sides of the market.
The successful candidate will work closely with an experienced PM, covering the European healthcare universe and contributing directly to investment performance through rigorous fundamental research and high-conviction idea generation.
The Role
This role offers direct exposure to senior investment decision-makers within a world-class hedge fund and the opportunity to play a meaningful role within an established investment team.
Working alongside the PM, you will be responsible for identifying and evaluating investment opportunities across the European healthcare sector, developing differentiated views on companies and translating detailed research into actionable long and short recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth fundamental research across European healthcare companies, including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical technology, diagnostics, and healthcare services.
- Generate high-conviction long and short investment ideas supported by rigorous fundamental analysis.
- Build and maintain detailed financial models and valuation frameworks to assess investment opportunities.
- Perform extensive due diligence through management meetings, expert calls, channel checks, and industry research.
- Monitor portfolio holdings and maintain a comprehensive understanding of key developments across the healthcare landscape.
- Analyse earnings releases, clinical trial outcomes, regulatory updates, and competitive dynamics to identify potential catalysts.
- Present investment theses clearly and concisely to the Portfolio Manager, articulating both upside opportunities and downside risks.
- Collaborate closely with the broader investment team to support portfolio construction and ongoing risk assessment.
Role Requirements:
- 4+ years' buyside experience , with a focus on healthcare equities.
- Candidates MUST have shorting experience
- Demonstrable experience covering European healthcare stocks and a strong understanding of the sector's key drivers and dynamics.
- Advanced qualifications such as the CFA, PhD, MD, or equivalent would be highly advantageous
- The ability to identify differentiated catalysts and develop well-supported bearish investment theses.
