Independent Non-Executive Director
Gloucestershire Managed Services (GMS)
Location: Gloucestershire
Remuneration: £7,929 per annum
Commitment: 3-4 days per month
Location: Hybrid
Closing Date: 25 June 2026
Seymour John is delighted to be partnering with Gloucestershire Managed Services Limited (GMS) to recruit an Independent Non-Executive Director to join its Board at an important stage in the organisation’s continued development and strategic delivery.
This appointment will play a critical role in strengthening Board capability by bringing independent challenge, clinical insight and strategic oversight to support the delivery of high-quality services across Gloucestershire Hospitals.
The Organisation
GMS is responsible for delivering a range of essential support services that underpin frontline patient care, so whilst they don’t deliver clinical care, everything they do shapes it.
From estates and medical engineering to facilities and sterile services, their work creates the environment in which safe, effective care happens every day. As a wholly owned subsidiary of Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, they are central to patient experience, safety and outcomes across the system.
Now, as GMS launches an ambitious five-year strategy focused on quality, transformation and growth, the organisation is looking to appoint a Non-Executive Director who brings credible clinical insight to the Board.
Why this role matters
GMS’s 2025–2030 strategy is clear:
To be a trusted, forward-thinking partner that delivers excellence, innovates, and supports the future of healthcare across Gloucestershire and beyond.
At its heart are critical priorities:
• Delivering safe, compliant, high-quality environments for care
• Strengthening patient and customer experience in everything we do
• Embedding a culture of continuous improvement and learning
• Supporting the NHS through resilient infrastructure and smart investment
Clinical insight at Board level is essential to ensuring GMS remains grounded in what matters most: safe, effective care for patients.
The Opportunity
This appointment provides a unique opportunity to shape how operational and estates services support frontline clinical delivery across a major NHS Trust. As a Non-Executive Director, you will help bridge clinical priorities and operational delivery. You will:
- Provide independent scrutiny and assurance that services support safe, effective patient care
- Bring a clinical lens to strategy, risk, quality and investment decisions
- Support the Board in understanding how infrastructure, estates and services impact clinical outcomes
- Champion a culture of safety, learning, and patient-centred improvement
- Ensure we remain aligned to NHS values and the expectations of our Trust and system partners
This is a rare opportunity to influence care at scale, not through direct delivery, but through the systems, environments and standards that enable it.
The Role
We are seeking a senior leader who brings credible clinical insight together with the ability to operate effectively at Board level.
You might be:
- A current or former clinician or senior healthcare professional, or
- A leader who has worked closely within clinical environments or patient safety roles
What matters is that you:
- Understand how clinical risk, safety and quality are experienced in practice
- Can translate this into strategic insight and constructive challenge
- Bring experience of working in complex, regulated healthcare settings
- Are confident holding executives to account while building strong, respectful relationships
Alongside this, you will demonstrate:
- Board-level or equivalent senior leadership experience
- Strong judgement, independence and integrity
- A deep commitment to NHS values and patient outcomes
