Job Title: Financial Lines Underwriter
Salary: £80,000 – £100,000 (Dependent on Experience)
Location: London
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Our client, a Specialty MGA, is seeking a Financial Lines Underwriter to support the continued growth of their financial lines portfolio. This role is suited to an established London Market Underwriter with a strong broker network and a hunter mentality, who thrives on meeting and engaging with brokers to generate new business.
You will be responsible for underwriting financial lines risks across D&O, FI and Cyber, building and maintaining broker relationships, and contributing to portfolio growth across a range of industry sectors including solicitors, accountants and beyond.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Underwrite financial lines risks across D&O, Financial Institutions and Cyber, covering both new business and renewals in line with underwriting appetite
- Develop and grow a profitable portfolio across a range of industry sectors
- Build and maintain strong broker relationships to support new business generation and retention
- Independently assess, rate and price risks in a timely and commercially sound manner
- Ensure underwriting decisions align with internal guidelines and regulatory requirements
- Produce accurate and compliant underwriting documentation
- Contribute to portfolio strategy, product development and market growth initiatives
- Maintain high service standards to support broker satisfaction and retention
- Ensure fair customer outcomes in line with regulatory expectations
- Carry out any additional duties as required
DAY TO DAY
- Review and assess incoming submissions within agreed service levels
- Liaise with brokers to negotiate terms and provide technical underwriting guidance
- Manage a portfolio of business, including renewals and mid-term adjustments
- Build relationships through regular broker interaction, both in-person and virtually
- Maintain accurate records across underwriting systems and documentation
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to support underwriting strategy and growth
- Ensure all underwriting activity remains compliant with internal and market standards
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 5+ years' underwriting experience within the London Market
- Proven experience underwriting financial lines risks (D&O, FI, Cyber)
- Open to candidates with exposure across various industry sectors including professional services
- Experience or exposure to international markets advantageous
- Strong broker relationships and demonstrable ability to generate new business
- Ability to manage and grow a portfolio profitably
- Strong analytical and decision-making capability

- Excellent relationship management and communication skills, with a genuine enjoyment of broker engagement
- Ability to assess complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Professional and confident approach when dealing with brokers and clients
- Ability to contribute to portfolio growth and strategic initiatives
EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS
- Progress towards or completion of ACII / FCII desirable
- Relevant underwriting experience within financial lines insurance
- Commitment to ongoing professional development
