We are seeking an experienced School Caretaker to join a lovely primary school on a long-term temporary basis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous school site experience who is looking for a stable role within a supportive educational environment.
The Role
As Caretaker, you will be responsible for helping to maintain a safe, secure and well-presented school site for pupils, staff and visitors. Working closely with the site team, you will carry out a variety of maintenance, security and facilities duties to ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the school.
Key responsibilities include:
- Opening/securing the school premises.
- Carrying out general maintenance, repairs and basic DIY tasks.
- Undertaking regular health and safety checks.
- Setting up rooms for meetings, assemblies and school events.
- Assisting with site security and monitoring contractors on site.
- Maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of external areas.
- Responding promptly to maintenance requests.
- Computer literate – Using the school's facilities management software to manage, update and complete tasks
Requirements
Essential:
- Previous experience working as a Caretaker, Site Assistant or Premises Assistant within a school environment.
- Good practical maintenance and handyman skills.
- Computer literacy and confidence using software systems to manage workloads and maintenance requests.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices.
- Reliable, proactive and able to work independently.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
