Polytec are seeking an experienced procurement professional to lead the sourcing of electronic assemblies and components for existing production and new product introduction (NPI). The role combines strategic category ownership, supplier relationship management and hands-on delivery within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This is a broad, hands-on supply chain role offering strategic and operational impact. You will be working at both Cambridge and Ely sites with the option to also work 2 days a week from home.
Responsibilities
• Lead procurement of electronic assemblies and components
• Develop and implement electronics category strategies and sourcing roadmaps
• Manage end-to-end sourcing: supplier selection, negotiation, and contract management
• Support NPI and engineering change activity
• Oversee inventory levels and component supply to contract manufacturers
• Drive cost reduction and cost avoidance initiatives (PCBA/electronics)
• Monitor market trends, availability, and obsolescence; mitigate supply risks
• Manage supplier performance, delivery, and capacity
• Track and report supplier and inventory metrics
• Manage purchase orders, lead times, shortages, and invoice queries
• Work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, quality, logistics, and finance
• Mentor buyers and planners and support continuous process improvement
Requirements
• Proven experience in electronics procurement / commodity management
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills
• Confident negotiator with a structured, analytical approach
• Experience working in an MRP-driven environment
• Knowledge of SMT manufacturing and testing processes
• Degree qualified or equivalent experience (8+ years in procurement)
• Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail
