Operations Clerk – Freight Forwarding (Junior Role)

About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Junior Operations Clerk to join our freight forwarding team based in the Heathrow area. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with some existing exposure to freight forwarding, logistics, or international trade who is looking to develop a long-term career within a growing business.
The role will initially focus on supporting LHR Air Import operations, providing hands-on experience in a fast-paced operational environment. A structured training plan will then provide exposure across the wider business, including Air Imports, Air Exports, Key Accounts, and our 3PL operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and process customer bookings accurately.
- Arrange collections and deliveries for international shipments.
- Prepare import, export, and cross-trade documentation.
- Assist with customs entries and compliance processes.
- Liaise with clients regarding shipment documentation and requirements.
- Respond to customer queries in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist with invoicing and operational administration.
- Update and maintain records within CargoWise.
- Support quotation requests within agreed KPI timeframes.
- Work closely with colleagues, supervisors, and the Operations Manager to ensure smooth workflow.
Training & Development
You will begin within Air Imports and receive structured training and exposure across:
- Air Import Operations
- Air Export Operations
- Key Account Support
- Third-Party Logistics (3PL) Operations
- Customs Procedures and HMRC Compliance
- CargoWise and Internal Systems
- End-to-End Freight Forwarding Processes
This role is designed to develop a well-rounded freight forwarding professional with clear progression opportunities across the business.
About You
We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate some exposure to the freight forwarding, logistics, supply chain, or international trade sector through either:
- Previous experience within freight forwarding, logistics, courier, shipping, customs, or supply chain operations; or
- A relevant degree or qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Business, Transport, or a related field.
In addition, you will have:
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- A professional and confident telephone manner.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- The ability to organise workloads and meet deadlines.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
- The ability to work effectively within a fast-paced team environment.
