Teqniq is searching for a Housing Officer/ Housing Enforcement Officer (Traveller Services) to work in the public sector.
37 hours per week.
6 month contract.
09:00-17:00
Job Description:
In addition to managing the authority’s two traveller sites on a two-day period during the week (primarily Tuesdays and Wednesdays) the successful candidate will also be expected to assist Health & Safety colleagues in supporting standard-risk health & safety regulatory activities on other days. For that purpose, and overall, the successful candidate would more likely than not need to be on district for minimum three days, preferably four days, per working week. Training and support will be provided to the successful candidate where required.
Main Duties:
1. To carry out the duties required to implement the authority’s statutory and discretionary policies and functions in respect of a range of its Environmental Health responsibilities.
2. To investigate and resolve service requests in relation to a defined range of Environmental Health responsibilities in accordance with Departmental procedures, guidance and legislative requirements.
3. To make recommendations on the service of statutory notices, institution of legal proceedings and the approval of licences and registrations. In particular being an authorised officer under the provisions of appropriate legislation, must take appropriate enforcement action including the service of notices, initiation and the preparation of cases for legal proceedings and attendance at tribunals/court hearings including in his/her own name.
4. To attend courts of law, tribunals and public enquiries as an ordinary or expert witness.
5. To maintain records and prepare reports using a wide variety of ICT systems for the proper administration of the above duties.
6. Responsible to a Manager who sets overall priorities and workloads and provides guidance on matters of policy. The work is largely self-supervising and the post holder is expected to exercise significant initiative, professional judgement and a flexible approach to service delivery.
7. To resolve sensitive and confrontational issues that arise with members of the public, businesses, elected members and other 3rd parties resulting from the Service’s law enforcement activities.
