We are recruiting for a Base Operations Assistant to join the BBC on an interim contract. The role support's operational facilities and colleagues by ensuring that the right equipment and facilities are in the right place at the right time and being responsible for the care of a facility or base.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
- Load and unload equipment and vehicles, following requirements for safe loading and ways of working.
- Checking equipment in and out using required systems.
- Where locally required, set up studios and facilities to meet the requirements of a booking (e.g. ensuring chairs are in place for an orchestra or setting a stage).
- Arrange for the movement of equipment between BBC locations and/or OB sites, to reduce costs and increase the efficiency of the operation.
- Use allocation or purchasing/stock control systems, allocating equipment, resolving shortages and hire queries, advising operational staff and managers of any shortages which cannot be resolved.
- Act as a point of contact for the service or area for operational staff, freelancers and others.
- Act on initiative with supervisory responsibilities within specified parameters when no senior member of staff is on site.
- Where appropriate and required, plan and organise the transportation of rostra and stage furniture.
- Where appropriate devise and maintain a schedule for cleaning of studios and other technical areas.
- Ensure that equipment, including vehicle-mounted equipment, is issued in a safe working condition, including ensuring that all relevant test documentation is up-to-date and reporting any problems.
- Maintain consumable stock levels, using purchasing systems to request replenishment e.g. recording media, first aid kits and safety equipment
- As appropriate, drive BBC or hire vehicles, ensuring compliance with regulation and BBC policies.
- To be involved with/undertake project work under the direction of others.
- Responsibility for the safety of self and others, following established safe working practices; reporting incidents or near misses via appropriate BBC systems.
Knowledge, skills, training and experience:
Essential
- Understanding of operational requirements relevant to the role.
- Understanding of purchasing and stock control procedures, and of equipment allocation processes.
- A good knowledge of and familiarity of all the equipment and its use. Knowledge of alternatives that can be offered in place of unavailable equipment.
- Knowledge of safety and welfare regulations and standing instructions relating to the base or facility operation.
- A good understanding of operational activities in order to assess operational urgency and allocate equipment most effectively.
- Awareness and understanding of the range of equipment allocation and purchasing processes in use across the department.
- Experience of working quickly and accurately under pressure, to constantly changing deadlines. Use of initiative and ability to work flexibly.
- Interpersonal and communication skills to build and sustain working relationships within craft, resource and production areas.
