Social Worker – Adult Mental Health – Reading Council

Our client, Reading Borough Council, is seeking an agency social worker its Adult Mental Health team.

The role is paid at £40 per hour and will last 6 months initially.

The role will involve the following:

  • We are seeking an experienced locum Senior Social Worker to join a dynamic Mental Health Social Care Team within Adult Social Care.
  • This role will focus on delivering high-quality, strengths-based assessments, care planning, and interventions for adults with complex mental health needs.
  • The postholder will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary partners, including NHS mental health services, to ensure holistic, person-centred support that promotes recovery, independence, and safeguarding. 
  • The ability to manage complex safeguarding and s117 aftercare applications and community Dols.
  • You will be responsible for managing a varied caseload, undertaking statutory duties under the Care Act, Mental Health Act, and Mental Capacity Act, and providing supervision and guidance to less experienced staff where required.

Requirements of the role:

  • Qualified Social Worker
  • Fully Social Work England registered
  • Must have substantial post-qualified experience in adult mental health settings and a strong understanding of relevant legislation and safeguarding frameworks
  • In depth understanding of the Care Act 2014 and its statutory requirement including eligibility, assessment and care planning.
  • You will demonstrate excellent risk assessment and decision-making skills, alongside the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and partnership-working skills are essential, as is a commitment to delivering responsive and effective services to vulnerable adults.
  • You will need to be within commutable distance of Reading due to the need for site/client visits.
