Academics are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-regarded primary school in Luton for a British Sign Language (BSL) Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team. This is a long-term opportunity supporting pupils with hearing impairments in a nurturing, inclusive, and supportive environment.
The ideal candidate will have a genuine passion for education and a strong commitment to supporting young learners with additional needs. You will play a key role in helping pupils access the curriculum, working closely with teaching staff across Early Years, KS1, and KS2.
Role: BSL Teaching Assistant
Phase: Primary
Qualification: BSL Level 1 to level 6
Pay: £95 to £120 depending on experience
Responsibilities:
- Supporting pupils with hearing impairments to access learning and reach their full potential
- Communicating effectively using British Sign Language
- Assisting the class teacher with the planning and delivery of engaging and age-appropriate lessons
- Providing feedback on pupil progress and identifying areas for development
- Promoting a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
- Supporting pupils both inside and outside of the classroom where required
Requirements:
- Minimum Level 1 qualification in British Sign Language
- Previous experience working with children with hearing impairments is highly desirable
- Passionate about primary education and supporting young learners
- Strong communication skills in both BSL and spoken/written English
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Confident building strong relationships with pupils, staff, and parents
