Key Requirements
- Relevant Experience: Prior experience supporting young people within an educational or mentorship capacity.
- Enhanced DBS: A valid Enhanced DBS clearance registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for one).
- Proactive Mindset: A self-motivated approach to identifying classroom needs and stepping in to assist without constant supervision.
- Eligibility to Work: Valid legal entitlement to work full-time in the UK.

- Behaviour Management: The ability to de-escalate low-level disruption quickly and assertively using positive reinforcement.
- Communication: Exceptional verbal and non-verbal communication skills to deliver instructions clearly to diverse student groups.
- Adaptability: High emotional intelligence and cognitive flexibility to manage sudden changes in schedules or lesson plans.
- Time Management: Mastery over the clock to ensure lessons start on time, paces are maintained, and clean-up occurs before the bell.
- Interpersonal Skills: The natural ability to build rapid, respectful rapport with both secondary school students and staff members.
- Problem-Solving: Sharp, on-the-spot critical thinking to resolve classroom challenges or technical issues independently.
Core Responsibilities
- Classroom Management: Maintain a focused and orderly learning environment, ensuring the school's behaviour policy is consistently enforced.
- Lesson Delivery: Supervise and deliver pre-set work left by the absent subject teacher, ensuring students understand the tasks.
- Student Engagement: Actively assist and guide students with their work, keeping them motivated and on task throughout the period.
- Registration: Accurately record student attendance at the beginning of each lesson using the school's administrative system.
- Safety & Safeguarding: Ensure a safe learning environment by adhering strictly to the academy's health, safety, and safeguarding protocols.
- Handover Reporting: Collect completed student work and write detailed handover notes for the returning classroom teacher.
- Adaptability: Move seamlessly between different subject areas and year groups throughout the school day as required.
- Resource Management: Ensure all classroom resources, textbooks, and equipment are distributed fairly and returned tidy.
- Inclusion Support: Provide tailored guidance to students who require extra assistance to access the pre-prepared lesson plan.
- Ethos Alignment: Embody and promote the core values, inclusive culture, and community spirit of the academy trust.
