A caring and inclusive primary school in Islington is seeking an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a Key Stage 2 pupil with severe Autism.
This is a highly rewarding role that requires a confident, patient and resilient individual with a strong understanding of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils who have complex communication and sensory needs.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the child's academic, social and emotional development, helping them access learning and thrive within the school environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day
- Support a KS2 pupil with severe Autism to engage with learning activities
- Implement strategies to support communication, emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals
- Adapt activities and resources to meet the pupil's individual needs
- Encourage independence, confidence and social interaction where appropriate
- Support transitions and maintain a structured, predictable learning environment
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience supporting children with severe Autism in a school setting
- Strong understanding of Autism and associated communication and sensory needs
- Experience managing challenging behaviour using positive behaviour support strategies
- Calm, patient and resilient approach
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to follow support plans and work collaboratively with school staff and parents
