Geotechnical Engineer
Location: Exeter
Salary: £32,000 – £42,000 + Benefits
A well-established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to join their growing Exeter office. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a wide range of infrastructure, commercial, residential and energy projects across the South West while developing both technical and project management skills.
The successful candidate will become part of an experienced geotechnical team, supporting the delivery of ground investigation projects and geotechnical design work from initial site assessment through to project completion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Planning, supervising and managing ground investigations
- Logging soil and rock samples in accordance with current standards
- Undertaking geotechnical assessments and interpretative reporting
- Producing geotechnical design solutions including foundations, retaining structures and earthworks
- Reviewing laboratory testing results and providing engineering recommendations
- Liaising with clients, contractors and regulatory bodies
- Managing project budgets, programmes and health & safety requirements
- Supporting junior engineers and contributing to technical development within the team
Requirements:
- Degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline
- 2+ years' experience within a geotechnical or ground investigation consultancy
- Strong understanding of ground investigation techniques and geotechnical principles
- Experience producing factual and interpretative reports
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- Working towards Chartered status with a relevant professional body
- Experience using geotechnical software packages
- Knowledge of slope stability, foundation design and retaining wall assessments
