About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Level 1 Teaching Assistant to join our team at a welcoming primary school in the Wirral. The successful candidate will provide 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), helping them to access learning and develop independence within the classroom.
This role requires a patient, nurturing individual who is confident in supporting children with additional needs and committed to inclusive education.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 tailored support for a pupil with ASD
- Use Makaton and a total communication approach to support understanding and expression
- Implement strategies to support pupils with:
- Autism (ASD)
- ADHD
- Global Developmental Delay
- Support sensory regulation, particularly for a sensory-seeking pupil
- Assist with intimate care needs in a respectful and dignified manner
- Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver personalised support plans
- Promote positive behaviour, engagement, and emotional wellbeing
Essential Requirements
- Experience working with children with ASD and additional needs
- Knowledge and practical experience of Makaton
- Understanding of ADHD, sensory needs, and global developmental delay
- Experience providing intimate care
- Ability to use a total communication approach
- A clear, confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills
- Calm, patient, and adaptable approach to supporting pupils
Desirable
- Previous experience in a primary school setting
- Relevant Teaching Assistant qualification (Level 1 or equivalent)
- Experience supporting sensory regulation strategies
