Financial Accounting Manager

Macildowie Recruitment and Retention

Financial Accounting Manager

Milton Keynes | Hybrid (Office – 3 days) | Up to £60,000 + Excellent Benefits

Are you a technically strong qualified accountant looking to take the next step in your career?

I am recruiting for a Financial Accounting Manager to join a well-established international business, leading a high-performing finance team responsible for the integrity of the general ledger and the delivery of robust financial controls.

This is an excellent opportunity for a practice-trained accountant (especially if you have an audit background) or someone with strong financial accounting experience looking to broaden their leadership experience within a complex corporate environment.

Whilst this is a management role, we're looking for someone who enjoys staying close to the detail. You'll oversee the month-end review process, ensure strong balance sheet governance and work alongside senior finance colleagues to support external audit and technical accounting activities.

The Role

As Financial Accounting Manager, you'll ensure the finance function operates within a strong financial control framework, leading an experienced team responsible for the integrity of the General Ledger and supporting the business through month-end, audit and financial reporting cycles.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading, coaching and developing an experienced finance team, providing technical support and day-to-day leadership.
  • Overseeing month-end close, reviewing financial results and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger.
  • Driving robust balance sheet reconciliations and maintaining a strong financial control environment.
  • Supporting internal and external audit by ensuring accounting records, reconciliations and supporting documentation are accurate and audit-ready.
  • Working closely with colleagues responsible for Group Reporting and Technical Accounting to support statutory reporting and audit requirements.
  • Reviewing intercompany accounting, accruals and provisions, ensuring risks are identified and managed appropriately.
  • Identifying opportunities to strengthen processes, improve controls and enhance the efficiency of the finance function.
  • Building strong relationships across Finance and the wider business, providing guidance and support on financial accounting matters.

About You

We're looking for a confident and capable accountant with strong leadership skills and a collaborative approach.

You'll ideally have:

  • ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification.
  • A practice-trained background, ideally within audit, or strong financial accounting experience within industry.
  • Around 2+ years' post-qualified experience.
  • Experience overseeing month-end close and reviewing financial accounting processes.
  • Strong understanding of balance sheet control, reconciliations and internal controls.
  • Experience supporting external audit.
  • The confidence to lead and develop an experienced team, providing technical guidance and support whilst fostering a positive and collaborative culture.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships across the business.

What's on Offer

  • Salary up to £60,000
  • Comprehensive benefits package
  • Hybrid working (3 days in the office)
  • The opportunity to lead an established and experienced finance team
  • Exposure to a complex international finance environment
  • A broad, hands-on leadership role with excellent long-term career development opportunities

If you're looking for a role where you can combine technical accounting expertise with people leadership, whilst remaining hands-on in a business that values strong financial controls and continuous improvement, I’d love to hear from you.
