Location: Chorley & Skelmersdale
Salary: Dependent on experience

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for dedicated and resilient Pastoral Support Assistants to work across a range of SEN and SEMH schools in Chorley and Skelmersdale, starting in September 2026.

This role involves supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs, helping them to manage behaviours, regulate emotions, and engage positively with learning. You will play a key role in creating a safe and supportive environment where students can thrive both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group pastoral support to students with SEN/SEMH needs
  • Support students in managing behaviour using positive and consistent strategies
  • Build strong, trusting relationships to promote emotional wellbeing
  • Assist in implementing individual behaviour and support plans
  • Work closely with teaching staff, SENCOs, and external professionals
  • Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and unstructured times
  • Monitor, record, and report on student progress and wellbeing
  • Promote a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment

About You

We are looking for individuals who:

  • Have experience working with children or young people with SEN and/or SEMH needs
  • Are patient, calm, and resilient in challenging situations
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Are confident managing behaviour in a positive and proactive way
  • Are passionate about supporting vulnerable young people
  • Can work effectively as part of a team

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

  • Previous experience in schools, PRUs, care, or youth work
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures
  • Training such as Team Teach, MAPA, or similar (advantageous)
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice
  • Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (preferred but not essential)

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
