Job Overview
Overview: Join Citi Belfast and become a vital part of a global financial institution. We are seeking a skilled and proactive individual to join our Markets Operations team. As an SME in Issuance Settlements, you will be at the heart of our global operations, contributing to the success of our Markets business and playing a key role in the overall client experience. This role offers the opportunity to work in a supportive environment, gain new experiences, and contribute to transforming and simplifying our operating model.

Markets Operations Belfast Overview: Our Operations groups are fundamental to the success of the Markets business. We provide critical support to a wide range of internal stakeholders, including Front Office Sales and Trading Desks, Compliance, Legal, Finance, and HR. We also engage significantly with external clients, playing a crucial role in delivering an exceptional client experience. Working within Markets Operations means having a truly global reach and contributing to an exciting environment that encourages diversity of thought and inclusion within an organization that genuinely values and invests in its people.

Role / Position Overview: This is a Subject Matter Expert (SME) position within the Issuance Settlements team, responsible for both Fixed Income and Equity products across multiple markets within EMEA and DTC.
This is an excellent opportunity to help develop and grow a high-performing and energized team that directly interacts with global clients, exchanges, and central securities depositories (CSDs). You will support our banking and trading desks across Europe, Asia, and the United States in various bespoke roles.
The team is responsible for monitoring asset creation, issuer payments, and the timely settlement of actual issuances, covering various types of Equity (EQ) and Fixed Income (FI) products, including but not limited to IPOs, Block Deals, and FI new issues. This is a high-profile global team with exposure to large-value and, at times, high-volume trades. The role involves daily engagement with clients, legal, internal stakeholders, and third-party vendors.
The successful candidate will receive ongoing supportive training and a personalized development plan to foster their success and career progression at Citi.

What you'll do

  • Lead and implement change initiatives, client solutions, or projects related to securities and derivatives settlement on issuance creation and settlement.
  • Resolve complex inquiries, conduct discovery, and perform due diligence activities for client requests and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide detailed analysis of escalated issues, recommend actions for resolution, and drive their implementation.
  • Contribute to improving processing standards and expectations for securities and derivatives teams, and develop policies and procedures that offer solutions and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Manage daily activities related to pre-issuance settlement and post-settlement operations processes, including monitoring Management Information Systems (MIS) and settlement efficiency statistics for issuance processes.
  • Propose and implement solutions for settlement process improvements, client service enhancements, and overall technology upgrades.
  • Coordinate with internal and external clients to assess service quality and identify areas for continuous improvement.
  • Appropriately assess risk when making business decisions, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients, and assets. This includes driving compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct, and business practices, and escalating, managing, and reporting control issues with transparency. Effectively supervise the activity of others and foster accountability among those who fail to maintain these standards.
  • Exceptional candidates who do not meet these criteria may be considered if they possess the necessary skills and experience.

What we need from you

  • Previous applicable relevant experience, preferably in Settlements or a Markets Operations role.
  • Demonstrated clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Proactive attitude and eagerness to learn.
  • Effective time management skills.

What we can offer you:

By joining Citi Belfast, you will not only be part of a business-casual workplace with a hybrid working model (up to 2 days working at home per week) but also receive a competitive base salary (annually reviewed) and enjoy a host of additional benefits, such as:
