We are seeking an Assistant Financial Controller to join our clients finance team. This role reports to the Financial Controller and is crucial for ensuring effective and accurate budget controls, forecasting, management accounting and departmental reporting while ensuring compliance with tax regulations.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Oversee the day-to-day financial operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking, payroll and maintaining accounting software records.
  • Support the Financial Controller with full end-to-end accounting for the business.
  • Ensure the month-end profit and loss is produced on time, with all accounts accurately viewed and reconciled to ensure an accurate reflection of the company's financial results.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, extended trial balances and balance sheets for monthly and year-end accounts.
  • Maintain prepayments and accruals schedules.
  • Reconcile stock at month-end.
  • Assist with fortnightly payment runs and quarterly VAT returns.
  • Prepare accurate monthly bank reconciliations within deadlines.
  • Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making.
  • Post journals for intercompany loans and expenses.
  • Assist with year-end audit processes, both external and internal, and compliance activities.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Working towards an accounting qualification (CIMA, ACCA, or ACA).
  • Experience as an Assistant Financial Controller or in a similar position.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial accounting principles and proven experience in producing accurate financial reporting.
  • Experience in management accounts, budgeting, and reporting processes.
  • Proficient with financial management systems and Microsoft Office packages, especially Excel for advanced financial modelling.
  • Excellent organisational skills, ability to prioritise effectively and meet tight deadlines.
  • Good written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A self-starter and proven ability to work under pressure.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with financial systems, particularly SAGE Intacct.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and regulations.
