Job Purpose:
Our client is an independent and expanding accountancy practice based in Milton Keynes, specialising in accountancy, taxation, and business advisory services for small and medium-sized businesses. With over 30 dedicated team members, they pride themselves on delivering exceptional service and building strong, long-term client relationships.
Due to continued organic growth, they are seeking an experienced Payroll Administrator to join their talented and supportive team. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual currently working in a similar role who is looking to further develop their expertise and progress their career within a dynamic and growing practice.
The successful candidate will manage a varied portfolio of clients, ensuring payroll services are delivered accurately, efficiently, and to the highest professional standards.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Run weekly and monthly payrolls, including the calculation of wages, overtime, bonuses, deductions, and statutory payments.
- Process and manage CIS returns and CIS suffered.
- Administer workplace pensions, including auto-enrolment uploads, re-enrolment, and redeclarations.
- Undertake banking activities and payroll-related financial administration.
- Administer benefits in kind and ensure accurate reporting.
- Process statutory payments, including sick pay, maternity, paternity, and other statutory entitlements.
- Liaise with HMRC to resolve payroll queries and discrepancies.
- Manage billing processes and assist with debt collection activities.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through regular communication and exceptional service delivery.
- Handle daily queries from clients and internal colleagues in a professional and timely manner.
- Manage a varied portfolio of clients, ensuring all deadlines and compliance requirements are met.
- Identify and resolve payroll inconsistencies and correct errors promptly and accurately.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with GDPR requirements.
Person Specification:
- Professional and client-focused approach.
- Ability to build strong working relationships with clients and colleagues.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Positive, adaptable, and willing to take initiative.
- Comfortable handling sensitive and confidential information.
Experience:
- Payroll experience within an accountancy practice in a similar role is essential.
- Experience managing a portfolio of clients.
- Excellent understanding of all aspects of payroll legislation, including:
- Statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP, etc.)
- PAYE and tax rules and thresholds
- National Insurance contributions
- Pension contributions and auto-enrolment legislation
- Good understanding of GDPR and confidentiality requirements.
- Ability to identify, investigate, and resolve payroll discrepancies.
- Experience dealing directly with HMRC and resolving payroll queries.
- Previous experience using BrightPay software is preferred.
