Job Title: Private Client Tax Manager
Location: City of Birmingham – flexible working options
Salary: £55,000 – £75,000 + benefits!
The Role:
My client are a proud independent firm and need ambitious individuals to help drive the future of their private client tax offering. They currently work with a variety of high-net-worth individuals, including landed estates, entrepreneurs, stakeholders in privately owned businesses, and executives of multi-national firms. Each client requires bespoke advice for their family, bringing lots of opportunity for the successful candidate to build their career as a trusted adviser and grow their professional development.
Purpose of the role:
The role focuses on managing a diverse portfolio of personal tax clients, providing a wide range of assignments including Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax, income tax, international tax matters, and identifying opportunities to advise your portfolio of clients in relation to these taxes. The successful candidate will provide original thinking to solve tax problems, frequently leading relationships to provide bespoke tax advice and solutions to one-off assignments. The successful candidate will also play a key role in developing the personal tax team, both through business development and staff development.
Responsibilities include:
- Client Service & Portfolio management: Manage a portfolio of personal tax clients which will involve significant internal liaison, meetings with clients, approve technically robust tax computations, identify technical issues, deliver complex tax advisory outcomes, maintain technical knowledge, and provide exceptional client service.
- Technical Delivery: Demonstrate exceptional technical knowledge and deliver this to clients through robust, effective advisory reporting and guidance. Specific technical knowledge required is outlined below.
- Team Leadership & Staff Development: Manage and develop the team, conduct reviews, provide feedback, delegate appropriately, and build a confident, technically capable team.
- Operational Efficiency & Workflow Management: Drive process efficiency and technology adoption, oversee WIP and billing, maintain compliance trackers, drive team productivity through recoveries and chargeable output, ensure files meet quality standards, and support client onboarding.
- Business Development: Identify advisory opportunities both within existing clients and new clients, support partners on complex client matters and attend external events to build personal and the Firms profile
- Firmwide Contribution: Collaborate with other teams and contribute to wider firm initiatives including best-practice and technology projects.
Qualifications & Experience Required:
- Qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA) and/or tax adviser (CTA) with experience working in a personal tax focussed environment with exposure to a varied client base.
- Academically strong results in career to date.
- Strong interpersonal skills are required in addition to strong oral and written communication skills.
- A keen and insightful appreciation of the issues facing private clients and an ability to deliver bespoke tax solutions to meet their needs.
- An ability to work as part of a team as well as on their own initiative.
- High level of analytical skills and a commercial approach to resolving issues and providing advice.
- May already hold an existing network of contacts in the region
