Jobshop UK Limited

Are you an experienced Personal Tax Accountant looking for something a little different?

We're delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a highly respected and long-established legal firm that genuinely values its people. This is an opportunity to move beyond a traditional accountancy practice into a varied, client-focused role where you'll work alongside an experienced Private Client team, advising on complex and rewarding matters involving individuals, trusts and estates.

If you're looking for a role where your expertise is appreciated, your work makes a real difference to clients, and you're part of a supportive and collaborative culture, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role

As Personal Tax Accountant, you'll become an integral member of the Private Client team, providing specialist tax advice and ensuring clients receive an exceptional level of service.

This is a varied position where you'll work closely with solicitors, trustees, executors, beneficiaries, HMRC and other professional advisers, managing a broad range of personal tax matters while helping to develop the tax knowledge of colleagues across the firm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit Self Assessment Tax Returns for individuals, trusts and estates.
  • Manage personal tax, trust tax, estate tax and Capital Gains Tax compliance.
  • Liaise directly with HMRC to resolve tax queries and ensure clients are correctly assessed.
  • Register clients for Self Assessment and manage HMRC agent authorisations.
  • Prepare trust accounts and beneficiary tax certificates.
  • Support the Private Client and Residential Property teams with Capital Gains Tax advice relating to property and investment transactions.
  • Prepare IHT100 returns for trust exit charges and ten-year charges.
  • Manage Trust Registration Service (TRS) compliance and overseas trust reporting requirements.
  • Act as a trusted point of contact for clients, trustees, executors and beneficiaries, providing clear and practical advice.
  • Identify potential tax issues before they become problems and offer proactive solutions.
  • Deliver training and guidance to fee earners on tax matters and tax software.
  • Build strong client relationships and contribute to the continued growth of the Private Client department.

About You

We're looking for an experienced tax professional who enjoys building relationships as much as solving technical tax matters.

You'll ideally have:

  • A professional accountancy or tax qualification.
  • Strong experience in:
  • Personal Tax
  • Trust Tax
  • Estate Tax
  • Capital Gains Tax
  • Holdover Relief
  • A good working knowledge of Inheritance Tax.
  • Experience preparing Self Assessment Tax Returns for individuals, trusts and estates.
  • Excellent communication skills with the confidence to liaise with clients, solicitors and HMRC.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and tax software.
  • Previous experience within a law firm would be advantageous but is not essential.

You'll Also Be…

  • Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proactive and able to identify issues before they arise.
  • Comfortable working independently while enjoying being part of a supportive team.
  • Professional, approachable and client focused.
  • Able to manage multiple deadlines in a busy but friendly environment.

Why Apply?

This is more than a tax role. It's an opportunity to join a firm that has built an outstanding reputation not only for the service it provides clients, but also for the way it supports and develops its people.

You'll enjoy a varied workload, exposure to interesting and complex private client matters, and the chance to become a valued specialist within a collaborative and highly regarded legal practice.

If you're looking for a fresh challenge where your expertise will be recognised and your career can continue to grow, we'd love to hear from you.
