DevOps (AWS Platform & Software Engineering)
Location: London (Hybrid: 3 days per week in-office)
Tech Stack: AWS, Terragrunt/Terraform, GitLab CI, Python, SQL
Morgan McKinley has partnered with a fast-growing, highly profitable proprietary trading firm in London. They combine institutional-grade market platforms with proprietary, in-house front-office trading systems. Operating with a flat structure and an "80/20" pragmatic mindset, they focus heavily on high-impact automation over corporate bureaucracy.
This role is ideal for an ambitious engineer with 3 to 5 years of experience who has mastered core infrastructure but wants to lean further into software automation, internal tooling, and data engineering – positioning themselves for a rapid trajectory into a Senior Engineer role.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)
- Infrastructure as Code: Own, scale, and evolve multi-environment AWS infrastructure natively using Terragrunt and Terraform.
- Data & Orchestration: Maintain production Kubernetes (EKS) clusters, alongside managing data layers including Postgres (Aurora), MongoDB, and Kafka streams.
- Software Tooling: Write clean automation scripts, internal platform tools, and targeted database fixes using Python and SQL to streamline the delivery lifecycle.
- CI/CD & Observability: Build out robust deployment pipelines in GitLab CI and leverage Datadog to optimize system reliability and reduce operational firefighting.
What We're Looking For (Requirements)
- Experience: 3-5 years of dedicated cloud engineering, platform engineering, or DevOps experience, showing a strong upward trajectory toward seniority.
- Cloud & IaC: Strong production experience with AWS core services (EKS, IAM, RDS) and Terraform/Terragrunt.
- Scripting & Data: Competence in Python and SQL – You must be comfortable interacting with codebases and writing internal tools, not just building dashboards.
- Mindset: A sharp, concise communicator who stays calm under time-sensitive system pressures and values pragmatic execution over perfection.
What's on Offer (Benefits)
- Compensation: Competitive base salary plus a highly rewarding annual discretionary performance bonus.
- Work-Life Balance: Hybrid working model (3 days on-site per week in London) and 39 days of annual leave to use whenever you choose.
- Growth Support: One-on-one sessions with a professional coach, a monthly personal development book allowance, and fully funded technical certifications.
- Health & Perks: Dedicated physical health allowance (towards gym, club memberships, etc.) alongside a fully stocked office kitchen
