Interim Financial Accountant
Location: Preston, Lancashire, North West England, Hybrid 3 days on site/2 WFH
Job Type: Contract, Full-Time, 6 months FTC
Salary: £55,000 – £60,000 per annum
Job Description
The Interim Financial Accountant is responsible for managing and delivering accurate financial information in line with statutory and regulatory requirements. The role involves preparing financial statements, managing the month end and year end close processes, and supporting budgeting and forecasting activities. The post-holder ensures compliance with accounting standards and internal controls, providing timely and accurate reports to support business decision-making.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with UK Generally Accepted Accounting Practise and International Financial Reporting Standards where applicable.
- Manage the month end and year end close processes, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and reconciled.
- Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts, including accruals, prepayments, and intercompany transactions.
- Support the preparation of management accounts, analysing variances and providing explanations to senior management.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting and cash flow analysis in collaboration with the finance team.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and contribute to the development and improvement of accounting processes and procedures.
- Liaise with external auditors and support audit activities as required.
- Maintain accurate financial records and documentation to support audit and financial reporting requirements.
- Provide support and guidance to other members of the finance team during the interim period.
- Ensure timely and accurate submission of statutory returns and tax filings in coordination with external advisors.
Required Qualifications
- Qualified accountant status (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards and financial reporting requirements.
Education
- A relevant degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is preferred.
Experience
- Proven experience as a financial accountant within an accounting or finance function, ideally within a commercial or corporate environment.
- Experience managing month-end and year-end processes, including preparation of financial statements.
- Demonstrable experience working within a contract or interim role is advantageous.
- Experience liaising with auditors and preparing audit schedules.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage competing priorities effectively.
Knowledge and Skills
- Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and financial regulations applicable in the United Kingdom.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in financial data preparation.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present financial information clearly.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
