SEMH and Wellbeing Support Assistant

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Cheltenham is seeking a dedicated SEMH and Wellbeing Support Assistant to join their supportive team. This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone looking to make a genuine difference in the lives of children who require additional support with their social, emotional, and mental health needs.
The Role
- Provide 1:1 support for pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs
- Support children who may experience anxiety, emotional dysregulation, or barriers to learning
- Deliver targeted small-group interventions focused on confidence, resilience, and social skills
- Implement effective behaviour management strategies to support positive outcomes
- Build strong, trusting relationships that help pupils feel understood and valued
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SEN professionals, and external agencies to support individual learning plans
- Help create a positive and inclusive learning environment across the school
What We're Looking For
- A patient, resilient, and empathetic nature
- Confidence supporting children with SEN, SEMH, or behavioural needs
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A genuine interest in psychology, mental health, education, or child development
- Previous experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals (desirable but not essential)

Ideal Backgrounds (Not Essential)
We welcome applications from candidates with experience in:
- Psychology or related degree disciplines
- Youth work, mentoring, or support work
- Care or residential support settings
- PRUs, alternative provision, or specialist educational settings
- Team Teach, MAPA, or CPI training
Requirements
- Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
- Right to work in the UK
