SEMH and Wellbeing Support Assistant

Are you passionate about supporting children's mental health, emotional wellbeing, and educational development?

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Cheltenham is seeking a dedicated SEMH and Wellbeing Support Assistant to join their supportive team. This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone looking to make a genuine difference in the lives of children who require additional support with their social, emotional, and mental health needs.

The Role

  • Provide 1:1 support for pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs
  • Support children who may experience anxiety, emotional dysregulation, or barriers to learning
  • Deliver targeted small-group interventions focused on confidence, resilience, and social skills
  • Implement effective behaviour management strategies to support positive outcomes
  • Build strong, trusting relationships that help pupils feel understood and valued
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SEN professionals, and external agencies to support individual learning plans
  • Help create a positive and inclusive learning environment across the school

What We're Looking For

  • A patient, resilient, and empathetic nature
  • Confidence supporting children with SEN, SEMH, or behavioural needs
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • A genuine interest in psychology, mental health, education, or child development
  • Previous experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable individuals (desirable but not essential)

Ideal Backgrounds (Not Essential)

We welcome applications from candidates with experience in:

  • Psychology or related degree disciplines
  • Youth work, mentoring, or support work
  • Care or residential support settings
  • PRUs, alternative provision, or specialist educational settings
  • Team Teach, MAPA, or CPI training

Requirements

  • Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
  • Right to work in the UK
