Contract Manager – Road Transport & Logistics
Location: Ashby-de-la-Zouch (with regular travel to customer sites)
Salary: £32,000 – £36,000 per annum + Car Allowance
Hours: Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week
Holiday: 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Contract Manager to join a growing transport and logistics operation. This role is ideal for a motivated individual with a strong background in road transport, customer relationship management, and operational leadership.
You will be responsible for managing large-scale transport contracts, maintaining strong client relationships, driving operational performance, and ensuring service and financial targets are achieved.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage and resolve escalated operational issues, implementing corrective actions where required.
- Develop and deliver strategic and operational objectives that provide value to customers.
- Monitor and manage contract performance, ensuring service levels and financial targets are consistently met.
- Lead and manage on-site teams, including drivers and shunters, to maximise operational efficiency.
- Demonstrate strong leadership in health and safety compliance and best practice.
- Produce performance reports and participate in regular customer review meetings.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implement effective solutions.
- Manage third-party haulier relationships to ensure customer requirements are met.
- Drive productivity, resource optimisation, and operational excellence across contracts.
About You
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience within the road transport or logistics sector.
- A proven track record of managing customer accounts and service delivery.
- Experience leading and developing teams with multiple direct reports.
- Strong commercial awareness and operational management skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Knowledge of drivers' hours legislation and transport compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
- A structured and methodical approach to problem-solving.
- Flexibility to travel regularly to customer sites, including occasional overnight stays.
A Transport Manager CPC qualification would be advantageous but is not essential.
