Notice Period Calculator
Estimate a basic UK statutory notice period based on length of service.
This calculator gives a basic estimate only. It does not check your employment contract, probation period, fixed-term agreement, dismissal reason, redundancy process, settlement agreement, garden leave, payment in lieu of notice, or any special circumstances. Your contract may require a longer notice period than the statutory minimum. This tool is for general information only and does not provide legal or employment advice.
How this calculator works
This calculator estimates a basic statutory notice period using the length of service you enter.
If an employee is resigning, the statutory minimum is normally at least 1 week if they have worked in the job for more than 1 month.
If an employer is giving notice, the statutory minimum is normally at least 1 week if employed for 1 month to 2 years, 1 week for each full year worked from 2 to 12 years, and 12 weeks if employed for 12 years or more.
The results are estimates only. Always check your employment contract, because your contract may require a longer notice period than the statutory minimum.
