I am delighted to be exclusively representing a Gloucester-based client who are looking to recruit an Assistant Accountant. You will be joining a small, close-knit finance team where collaboration, support, and team spirit are central to everything they do.
This role is ideal for someone with a willingness to learn and grow. Formal qualifications are not essential — the right attitude, personality, and desire to build a career in finance are far more important.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide transactional accounting support to the finance team
- Assist with monitoring budgets and forecasts, highlighting variances to the Finance Manager and Finance Director
- Purchase ledger duties, including checking purchase orders against invoices and posting to the ledger
- Raising sales invoices and supporting debtor control
- Month-end statement reconciliations and ensuring timely supplier payments
- Supporting improvements to finance systems, processes, and software
You will work very closely with the Finance Manager, who will support your development while you, in turn, support the wider finance team.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Some prior experience in an accountancy or finance role
- A strong desire to develop a long-term career in Accountancy and Finance
- Excellent numeracy and analytical skills, with strong attention to detail
- Confident communication skills, able to engage with both finance and non-finance colleagues
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial systems
- Ability to work independently whilst also being a key team player
