Assistant Accountant (Maternity Cover)
- Annual Salary: up to £38,000
- Location: Near Carnforth
- Job Type: Full-time, Office-based
- Contract Term: Fixed-term (Aug 2026 – Oct 2027)
We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join a well-established SME on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working in a collaborative finance team and supporting the day-to-day operations of the finance function.
Day-to-day of the role:

Transactional Finance:
- Process sales orders and invoices.
- Manage the purchase ledger, including supplier invoices, reconciliations, and queries.
- Support the sales ledger with invoicing, statements, and customer queries.
- Handle expenses and credit card transactions.

Banking & Cash Management:
- Perform daily bank reconciliations.
- Monitor balances and support cash flow tracking.
- Process payments to suppliers, staff, and HMRC.

Admin & Wider Business Support:
- Support staff records and HR administration.
- Respond to general enquiries.
- Update spreadsheets and assist with reporting.
- Support the wider team with ad hoc tasks.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a similar accounts role.
- Confidence in managing both purchase and sales ledgers, as well as banking.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team environment.
- AAT qualification or currently studying towards one is beneficial but not essential.
