Assistant Director of Environment
- Pay Rate: £650 per day (Umbrella/Inside IR35)

We are seeking an energetic and resilient leader to join the City of Doncaster as the Assistant Director of Environment. This high-profile role encompasses a diverse remit including regulation and enforcement, highways and infrastructure, streetscene, waste management, and emergency planning. We are looking for a visionary leader who can drive change, collaborate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, and lead large teams with credibility and vigour.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Provide strategic support and guidance to elected members and the Council on key priorities that impact our residents.
- Jointly lead across the directorate and wider partnerships with pace and focus, placing the needs of Doncaster at the forefront of regional thinking.
- Offer visible leadership to galvanise teams and foster a collaborative team environment while robustly managing performance.
- Be outwardly focused, skilled at building external relationships to enhance the positioning of Doncaster’s needs.
- Motivate and support teams to deliver customer-focused solutions and excel in their service delivery, ensuring the best possible outcomes for the residents of Doncaster.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience in a leadership role within a similar environment, covering aspects such as regulation, highways, waste management, and emergency planning.
- Strong ability to operate both strategically and operationally with adaptive leadership skills.
- Excellent commercial acumen and diplomatic skills to lead strategic initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong external relationships.
- Experience in leading large teams and driving customer-focused public services.
- Passionate about environmental issues and improving community living standards.
