Assistant Financial Accountant

The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and detail-oriented Assistant Financial Accountant to join a growing finance team. This role offers excellent exposure across financial accounting, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury and audit activities, making it an ideal position for someone looking to progress their accounting career while receiving professional study support.
Working closely with the Finance Manager, you will play a key role in supporting month-end processes, maintaining financial controls and delivering accurate financial reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of assigned month-end tasks to support the timely production of management accounts.
- Prepare financial analysis and supporting schedules for monthly reporting.
- Maintain and reconcile the Fixed Asset Register, including depreciation calculations and postings.
- Monitor capital expenditure against approved budgets.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving variances.
- Manage quarterly intercompany reporting and reconciliation processes.
- Prepare journals including payroll, accruals and prepayments.
- Support bank reconciliations, payments, expense reporting and supplier maintenance.
- Assist with group reporting and the preparation of data for tax reporting requirements.
- Produce and analyse monthly KPI information.
- Support internal and external audits, including statutory accounts preparation.
- Assist with annual budgeting and periodic forecasting activities.
- Identify and implement process improvements, reporting enhancements and automation opportunities.
- Provide ad hoc financial analysis and business support as required.
About You
We're looking for someone who is proactive, organised and keen to develop their finance career.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in an accounting or finance role.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, including accruals and prepayments.
- Experience supporting month-end close processes.
- Experience preparing balance sheet reconciliations.
- Advanced Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP and data analysis.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritise workload effectively.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Desirable
- Part-qualified AAT, ACCA or CIMA, or actively studying towards a professional accounting qualification.
- Experience working with ERP systems.
- Experience in budgeting, forecasting or fixed asset accounting.
