Headstar
This one of those roles that sounds "junior" on paper but actually sits right in the middle of how the finance function runs day to day.
If you like structured work, tidy reconciliations, and understanding how numbers actually move through a business, you'll probably enjoy it. If you prefer everything pre-packaged and predictable, less so.
You'll support the Finance Director and wider team across transactional finance, payroll, and management accounting – with a genuine mix of doing and learning.
You'll be:
- Processing purchase invoices (including PO matching), managing supplier accounts, queries, and payments
- Maintaining and reconciling accounts payable and receivable, including inbox management and aged balances
- Processing weekly and monthly payroll, ensuring accuracy of inputs and handling employee queries
- Supporting month-end close, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and reconciliations
- Assisting with management accounts preparation, reporting packs, and KPI reporting
- Carrying out variance analysis and supporting budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting
- Maintaining the fixed asset register
- Supporting year-end processes, audit requests, and R&D submissions
- Providing ad hoc analysis and supporting process improvements
- Maintaining accurate financial records within the accounting system
What do you need?
- AAT qualified, part-qualified CIMA/ACCA/ACA, or qualified by experience
- Experience in a finance/accounts role, ideally with some exposure to management accounts
- Strong Excel skills (lookups, pivots, comfortable with data)
- Payroll experience is useful but not essential
- Accurate, organised, and able to manage deadlines
- Comfortable communicating with finance and non-finance colleagues
- Proactive and keen to develop
What's in it for you?
- An annual salary of up to £35k (depending on experience)
- Study support
- Hybrid working
- 25 days annual leave + bank holidays
