Attendance Officer – Big Secondary School – Watford – September 2026 Start – Full-Time post, Term Time Only

Tradewind Recruitment is working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive secondary school seeking to appoint a dedicated Attendance Officer from September 2026. This full-time, term-time role is ideal for candidates with experience in education, attendance, pastoral support or student welfare who are committed to improving attendance and safeguarding outcomes.
This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in supporting student engagement, reducing persistent absence and helping students achieve their full potential.
The Role
As an Attendance Officer, you will lead on attendance monitoring and intervention across the school, working closely with students, families, staff and external agencies.
Your responsibilities will include:

Monitoring and analysing whole-school attendance and punctuality data

Following up on unexplained absences and attendance concerns with parents and carers
-
Producing attendance reports and identifying trends, patterns and students requiring additional support
-
Coordinating attendance interventions, meetings and attendance clinics
-
Maintaining accurate attendance records and managing attendance-related administration
-
Supporting school census returns and attendance compliance processes
-
Working with vulnerable students and implementing strategies to improve attendance
-
Liaising with external agencies including local authorities, social care and attendance services
-
Conducting home visits where appropriate to support student attendance
-
Supporting safeguarding procedures where attendance becomes a welfare concern
-
Advising school leaders on attendance strategies, policies and interventions

Ensuring all attendance processes are compliant with statutory guidance and school policies
Who we're looking for
We are seeking a committed, organised and resilient professional with experience supporting attendance and student welfare.
You will have:

Experience working within a school, education or student support setting
-
An understanding of attendance and implementing attendance interventions
-
Strong data analysis, reporting and administrative skills
-
Experience working directly with students, parents and external professionals
-
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
-
Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection responsibilities
-
The ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion

GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)

A proactive and solution-focused approach
