Backend Software Engineer (Java & AWS Migration)
- Location: Manchester (Hybrid: 2 days/week onsite, flexibility available)
- Rate: £560/day (Inside IR35 / Umbrella)
- Contract Length: 6 Months (Extensions highly likely)
The Opportunity
We are looking for a skilled Software Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team supporting a platform used by millions of global customers. This role is focused on a critical infrastructure initiative: migrating approximately 20 backend services from a legacy environment into a modern AWS account at a steady pace of 3-4 services per quarter.
If you thrive on cloud migrations, write exceptionally clean code, and love taking end-to-end ownership of services from deployment to production support, this is the contract for you.
What You'll Do:
- Execute Cloud Migrations: Lead the technical execution of moving legacy backend services over to a new AWS environment.
- Build & Refactor: Write clean, reusable, and highly maintainable Java code while implementing robust Service-to-Service authentication patterns.
- End-to-End Ownership: Own your services throughout their lifecycle-including deployment, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and proactive monitoring (DynamoDB/SQL).
- Maintain Quality & Speed: Balance rapid delivery with pristine code craft, ensuring comprehensive test coverage is baked into every release.
What We're Looking For:
- Strong commercial experience as a Backend Software Engineer (3-5+ years).
- Deep expertise in Java (version 17 and onwards) and Spring Boot.
- Proven track record with AWS migrations, including DynamoDB and SQL databases.
- Hands-on experience implementing Service-to-Service (S2S) authentication.
- Strong testing background (unit, integration, and automated testing frameworks).
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate seamlessly within cross-functional Agile teams.
