Reed Procurement are supporting a growing manufacturing business is looking to appoint an experienced Buyer to join its collaborative supply chain team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially driven procurement professional who enjoys working within a fast-paced, make-to-order and project-based environment, where forecasting can be complex and supply chains are often multi-tiered.
The Role
Reporting into the Supply Chain Manager, you will be part of a team of four Buyers, responsible for the end-to-end procurement of components and services critical to operations.
You will play a key role in managing supplier relationships, negotiating contracts, and driving cost and performance improvements, while supporting a business that is evolving its sourcing strategy away from single-source dependency.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage procurement of direct and indirect materials across a complex, multi-tier supply chain
- Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with predominantly existing suppliers
- Identify and onboard new suppliers to support dual/multi-source strategies
- Lead commercial negotiations on pricing, terms, and contracts (in line with internal approval processes)
- Carry out cost analysis and identify opportunities for savings and value improvement
- Use data and Excel-based reporting to support decision-making and performance tracking
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand demand in a project-based environment
- Monitor supplier performance, quality, and delivery, addressing issues proactively
- Contribute to supply chain planning activities where required
About You
- Proven experience as a Buyer within manufacturing environments (essential)
- Experience of make-to-order or project-based purchasing an advantage
- Confident negotiator with experience managing contracts and supplier agreements
- Able to operate within complex, multi-tier supply chains
- Highly analytical, with strong Excel and data analysis skills
- Experience supporting or working alongside planning functions is advantageous
- Comfortable managing both supplier relationships and new sourcing activity
- Knowledge of electrical components (e.g. cables, modems) is desirable but not essential
- Proactive, organised, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively
