About the Role

Complete Classroom Services is recruiting a dedicated and dependable School Caretaker to join a welcoming school in Southwark. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who takes pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-functioning learning environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the smooth operation of the school site, carrying out routine maintenance tasks, assisting with health and safety procedures, and ensuring facilities are ready for daily use by pupils, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections of classrooms, corridors, communal areas, and external spaces
  • Carry out basic maintenance tasks including painting, furniture repairs, changing light fittings, and minor plumbing repairs
  • Ensure school entrances, pathways, and outdoor areas are kept clean, safe, and free from hazards
  • Prepare halls, classrooms, and meeting spaces for school events, examinations, assemblies, and parent evenings
  • Assist with deliveries, moving equipment, and setting up furniture as required
  • Monitor stock levels of site and cleaning supplies and report replenishment needs
  • Conduct regular health and safety checks, including fire safety equipment inspections
  • Support contractors and external service providers whilst on site
  • Manage waste disposal and recycling procedures in line with school policies
  • Report maintenance issues and site concerns promptly to the relevant school staff
  • Assist with locking and securing designated areas of the school premises
  • Help maintain a positive appearance of the school grounds throughout the year

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Previous experience in a caretaker, facilities, maintenance, or site support role
  • Practical skills in general repairs and building maintenance
  • Awareness of health and safety requirements within a workplace environment
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and work efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Good communication skills and a helpful, professional manner
  • Flexibility to respond to site issues as they arise
  • Basic IT skills for reporting and communication purposes

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience working within a school or educational setting
  • Basic qualifications in a trade or maintenance-related discipline
  • Health and Safety certification such as IOSH Working Safely
  • Knowledge of school safeguarding procedures
  • Experience supporting site compliance checks and inspections
