Job Description – Year 5 Class Teacher (Fixed-Term)

Duration: September – February (Fixed-Term Contract)
Contract Type: Full-time
Location: Lancashire (Primary School Setting)
Salary: £168.80 – £232.57 per day

Overview

We are seeking a committed, enthusiastic and highly motivated Year 5 Class Teacher to join a friendly and supportive primary school on a fixed-term basis from September to February.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to work within a nurturing, inclusive environment where pupils are valued as individuals and encouraged to achieve their full potential academically, socially and emotionally.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality lessons in line with the National Curriculum for Key Stage 2.
  • Provide an engaging, broad and balanced curriculum that inspires curiosity and a love of learning.
  • Differentiate teaching to meet the needs of all learners, including SEND, EAL and higher-attaining pupils.
  • Use assessment effectively to monitor progress and inform next steps in learning.
  • Maintain high expectations of behaviour and achievement.

Classroom Management

  • Create a positive, safe and inclusive classroom environment where all pupils feel valued.
  • Establish clear expectations and routines to promote excellent behaviour for learning.
  • Foster pupils’ confidence, resilience and independence.

Assessment & Progress

  • Assess, record and report on pupil progress in line with school policies.
  • Provide clear and constructive feedback to support pupil development.
  • Contribute to pupil progress meetings and support interventions where needed.

Pastoral Care

  • Support the wellbeing, safeguarding and personal development of all pupils.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, promoting their social, emotional and spiritual development.
  • Work closely with parents/carers to support pupils’ learning and wellbeing.

Collaboration & Contribution

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues, support staff and senior leaders.
  • Contribute to team planning and whole-school initiatives.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training and professional development opportunities.

Safeguarding

  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children in accordance with statutory guidance.
  • Follow all safeguarding and child protection procedures and report concerns promptly.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Experience teaching in Key Stage 2 (preferably Year 5 or upper KS2)
  • Strong knowledge of the National Curriculum
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality teaching and learning
  • Excellent classroom management skills
  • Commitment to inclusive education and pupil development
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable

  • Experience preparing pupils for end-of-Key Stage 2 assessments
  • Understanding of effective outdoor/enrichment learning approaches
  • Experience working in a small or community-focused primary school
