Salary: £12.71 per hour increasing £13.09 from 01 September 2026
Job Type: Permanent, Part-Time
Shifts Available: 15 hours per week – 5.30am to 8.30am, 17.5 hours per week – 5.30am to 9.00am, or 5.00pm to 8.30pm, 15 hours per week – 5.00am to 8.00am (Prep School)
About Us:
The Foundation comprises two schools: Abingdon School and Abingdon Prep School, as well as Abingdon School Enterprises. Abingdon School is a leading independent day and boarding school with more than 1,000 pupils aged 11-18. Currently a boys’ school, it will become co-educational from September 2026.
Abingdon Prep School is a vibrant and warm day preparatory school with around 200 pupils aged 4-13 which has been co-educational since last year. Both Schools are situated in beautiful and extensive grounds, with the senior school in the heart of Abingdon on Thames, just south of Oxford, and the Prep School located a few miles away in nearby Frilford.
Cleaner – The Role:
You will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards across all school areas. Working as part of the Housekeeping Department, you will clean pupil bedrooms, common rooms, bathrooms, kitchens, teaching areas, staircases, sports facilities and communal spaces. You will use a variety of cleaning equipment and products, carry out deep cleaning tasks as required, strip and make beds, manage bin disposal, and maintain cleaning supply stocks. You will work across different buildings and floor levels, ensuring all areas meet required standards within agreed timescales.
Cleaner – Key Responsibilities:
– Clean school areas including bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, teaching spaces and communal areas to required standards
– Use a range of cleaning equipment from basic tools to specialist machines such as steamers and carpet cleaners
– Carry out deep cleaning of allocated areas at the end of term and after maintenance work
– Strip and make beds, empty bins and maintain cleaning product stocks
– Comply with school policies and statutory requirements, including correct use of colour-coded equipment
– Report maintenance issues and any pupil welfare concerns to supervisory staff
– Attend all training sessions and staff meetings
Cleaner – You:
– Able to communicate clearly and follow instructions reliably
– Punctual, flexible and able to manage time effectively to prioritise work
– Capable of working independently and as a team member with minimum supervision
– Mentally and physically fit to carry out the full range of duties
– Committed to safeguarding children and valuing equity, diversity and inclusion
– Ideally have experience undertaking general cleaning duties
