About the role
Reporting to the Lead Climate Manager, you will work alongside the ESG finance, property and transport teams to develop and deliver the decarbonisation strategy for Tesco’s own operations. Build on the expertise and leadership of Tesco, you will develop an integrated business strategy to decarbonise energy & industry emissions within our supply chain (addressing Scope 3 Non-FLAG emissions) in line with our ambitious SBTi targets. You will work closely with relevant business functions and with key suppliers to inspire ownership and influence action on climate change.
The successful candidate will be organised and detail-oriented, with a strong technical background on emissions accounting, excellent data analysis skills, and exceptional engagement and influencing skills.

You will be responsible for
1. Own operations decarbonisation strategy
- Working with Property and Transport to develop and deliver the strategy and key initiatives to decarbonise Tesco Group’s own operations.
- Lead & coordinate the operational steering group with key stakeholders to drive the strategy.
- Support the annual Tesco financial cycle in ensuring capital availability to deliver the strategy.
- Ensure the business is ready for upcoming changes in official frameworks (SBTi, GHG Protocol…).
2. Data management and reporting
- Supervise the process of collecting scope 1 and 2 data, including the assurance and reporting of progress against Scope 1 and 2 SBTi targets.
- Working closely with the ESG finance team, business units leads and property and transport teams, translate insights and plans into a scope 1 and 2 emissions forecast. Model various scenarios of technology implementation and electrification roll-out.
- Report progress in external reports including: Tesco’s Sustainability Report, Tesco’s Annual Report, TCFD, CDP, CSRD.
3. Supplier engagement and strategy delivery for energy & industry emissions
- Lead the development and delivery of strategy and key initiatives to support supplier processing & transport decarbonisation efforts (including transitioning to renewable electricity).
- Working alongside the supplier engagement team and category colleagues, design a supplier engagement strategy to drive a renewed focus on achieving our Manufacturing targets.
- Continuously review the internal and external environment to develop and implement effective policies and strategies for making progress towards our net zero commitment.
4. Industry engagement and leadership
- Identify relevant forums and opportunities to strengthen industry engagement and collective action to tackle energy & industry emissions within the sector.
- Represent Tesco in relevant industry forums.
