EXPERIENCE OF WORKING WITHIN A PUBLIC SECTOR ENVIRONMENT IS ESSENTIAL FOR THIS ROLE

Our client is a large local government organisation and looking for an experienced Communications Manager to join their team. This is initially a 3 month contract which may be extended for the right candidate

You will

Plan and deliver successful internal and external communication campaigns outlined in the Council’s communication strategy

Lead on the delivery of key internal and external publications including copywriting and procuring photography

Use change communication best practice and insight to deliver effective and dedicated internal change campaigns or change elements in service campaigns

Ensure research and evaluation is carried out that measures success and demonstrates the contribution of all communication activity towards the Council’s priority outcomes

Develop key relationships and opportunities within the Council and with key partners and external stakeholders including the media, suppliers, and national organisations that are beneficial for the Council and help deliver the Council’s priorities

Work within the Council’s vision and values and ensure that all decisions are taken in line with these at all times, including delivering value for money and the best outcome for customers

Generate commercial support for marketing initiatives through advertising sales and sponsorship in line with Council policy

Support the development of less experienced team members by sharing experience and knowledge and identifying opportunities for them to gain new skills

Ensure the Strategic Communication Manager, Senior Communication Manager, Media and Reputation Manager, directors, Chief Executive and members are kept up-to-date on communication activity by reporting activity through the forward planner and through face-to-face communication

Take part in the weekly comms and media rota, logging media requests and ensuring they are owned and responded to within appropriate deadlines. As part of this role, identify opportunities to ‘piggy-back’ on media opportunities to communicate key messages
