Community Fundraising and Engagement Executive – West Midlands
Salary: £24,160 per annum (£30,200 FTE)
Hours: 30hrs/week, 0.8FTE (flexible over 5 days)

Location: Hybrid – 2/3 days at our Birmingham centre
THE CHARITY
Suicide is the leading cause of death in men under 35, and three quarters of those who die by suicide are men. James' Place offers free, life-saving therapy to men in suicidal crisis at centres in Liverpool, London, Newcastle and Birmingham. Founded in 2008 after the death of 21-year-old James Wentworth-Stanley, we exist to make finding help as easy as possible. To date, we have supported over 5,100 men.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a new role split across fundraising (50%), community outreach (40%), and administration (10%). You will build networks across Birmingham and the West Midlands, securing income and raising awareness to drive referrals to our Birmingham centre.
Direct Fundraising (50%)
- Develop and grow a network of local donors (HNWIs, corporates, community fundraisers, Trusts and Foundations) and volunteer supporters across the region.
- Steward existing donors and prospects to secure long-term, multi-year support.
- Attend and support fundraising events and community engagement activity.
- Identify regional funding opportunities and support grant applications and funding proposals.
- Collaborate with fundraising, communications, events, and clinical teams to maximise opportunities.
Direct Outreach (40%)
- Identify and engage partner organisations across Birmingham and the West Midlands to raise awareness of James' Place.
- Build relationships with local statutory, voluntary, and community sector organisations.
- Attend meetings, forums, and events to share information about our services.
- Coordinate partnership communications and ensure consistent messaging with external partners.
- Identify opportunities for partnership working that support fundraising, engagement, and service awareness.
Administration (10%)
- Maintain accurate CRM records and ensure compliance with fundraising regulations.
- Build confidence and capability in fundraising among clinical and non-fundraising colleagues.
- Represent James' Place professionally at all times and uphold our values: Focus, Bravery, Respect, Compassion, Professionalism, Collaboration and Hope.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
- Proven charity fundraising experience with results in at least two of: community fundraising, corporate partnerships, events, HNWI major gifts, or Trusts and Foundations.
- Strong understanding of donor motivations across different audiences.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to craft persuasive messages and build rapport.
- Confident and professional in stakeholder and partner relationship management.
- Strong time management; practical, resilient, and adaptable.
- Innovative, collaborative, and solution-focused.
- Able to handle sensitive issues with kindness, integrity, and emotional resilience.
Desirable
- Experience with CRM databases (e.g. Salesforce).
- Interest in mental health and suicide prevention.
