A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Court of Protection Paralegal to join a highly regarded specialist firm supporting some of the most vulnerable individuals in society.

This is an excellent role for someone with strong CoP or Mental Capacity Act experience who is looking to develop further within a specialist, meaningful area of law.

About the Firm

The firm specialises in representing vulnerable people, including those detained under the Mental Health Act or lacking capacity to make key decisions. Their work spans Mental Health Tribunals, welfare and financial Court of Protection matters, deputyship work, and Lasting Powers of Attorney. They also provide training to professionals across legal, health, and social care sectors.

You’ll be joining a supportive, established Court of Protection team committed to delivering high-quality, client-centred legal services.

The Role

Working closely with a Court of Protection Solicitor, you will support a caseload primarily focused on welfare matters and Section 21A applications. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing day-to-day support to the supervising Solicitor and wider team
  • Drafting legal documents, applications, and correspondence
  • Reviewing expert reports and case disclosure
  • Instructing Counsel and independent experts
  • Attending client visits with a compassionate and professional approach
  • Assisting with case plans and progression
  • Attending court hearings alongside the Solicitor
  • Recording court orders, deadlines, and key case information
  • Managing Legal Aid Agency processes, including cost increases and amendments
  • Taking detailed notes at meetings, hearings, and conferences
  • Maintaining effective diary management and case organisation
  • Supporting general case management and administrative tasks

What We’re Looking For

Essential:

  • Paralegal experience, ideally within the Court of Protection or a related area
  • Experience with the Mental Capacity Act and CoP procedures
  • Working knowledge of Legal Aid Agency processes
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work empathetically with vulnerable clients and families
  • Resilience and professionalism in a sensitive area of law
  • Good IT skills and strong attention to detail
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

Desirable:

  • Experience with welfare applications and Section 21A matters
  • Experience attending client meetings or court hearings
