Cover Supervisor

Protocol Education

Fancy a role where no two days are quite the same?

One minute you're supporting a Year 7 English class, the next you're helping a group of Year 10s stay focused during a science lesson.

If you're confident, organised, and enjoy working with young people, becoming a Cover Supervisor could be the perfect next step.

We're looking for enthusiastic and reliable Cover Supervisors to support secondary schools across Rotherham. Whether you're considering a future career in teaching, have experience working with young people, or simply enjoy helping students succeed, we'd love to hear from you.

What's a Cover Supervisor?

Think of yourself as the calm, confident presence that keeps learning on track when teachers are absent.

You'll deliver pre-planned lessons, manage classroom behaviour, and ensure students stay engaged with their work. No lesson planning. No late-night marking. Just the opportunity to make a positive difference every day.

It's a brilliant role for aspiring teachers, graduates, youth workers, sports coaches, teaching assistants, or anyone with experience supporting young people.

Your day-to-day responsibilities

You'll be:

  • Supervising whole classes during teacher absences
  • Delivering pre-prepared lesson materials across a range of subjects
  • Managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a positive learning environment
  • Encouraging students to stay focused and complete their work
  • Supporting pupils with questions about the tasks set
  • Reporting back to teaching staff at the end of lessons
  • Building positive relationships with students and school staff

No need to be a subject specialist. Schools provide all lesson materials and guidance needed for each class.

The schools

We work with welcoming secondary schools that value the contribution Cover Supervisors make every day.

These schools are looking for people who can step into the classroom with confidence, build rapport quickly, and create a calm, productive learning environment.

Whether you're looking for regular work in one school or flexible opportunities across multiple settings, we'll help find the right fit for you.

We'd love to hear from you if you:

  • Have experience working with children or young people
  • Are confident speaking in front of groups
  • Can remain calm under pressure
  • Have strong communication and organisational skills
  • Are adaptable and happy working across different subjects
  • Can build positive relationships with students and staff
  • Are passionate about helping young people achieve their potential

This role could be ideal if you've worked as a:

  • Teaching Assistant
  • Learning Support Assistant
  • Sports Coach
  • Youth Worker
  • Tutor
  • Mentor
  • Graduate considering teacher training
  • Education support worker

No classroom teaching qualification is required, although previous school experience is beneficial.
