Are you a Criminology graduate looking to gain valuable experience working with children with additional needs before pursuing a career in Youth Justice, Educational Psychology, Social Work, Probation, Mental Health, or the Police?

A supportive and welcoming SEN school in Cheltenham is seeking a dedicated and resilient Criminology Graduate to join their team as an SEN Teaching Assistant. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting children with Autism (ASC), ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and other additional learning needs.

As a Criminology Graduate – SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils on a one-to-one and small group basis, helping them to engage with learning, develop positive behaviours, and build confidence in the classroom. You'll work alongside experienced teachers and specialist staff, developing practical skills in behaviour management, safeguarding, communication, and supporting vulnerable young people.

This role is particularly well suited to graduates considering careers in Youth Offending Services, Social Work, Educational Psychology, Mental Health, Probation, or Teaching.

Key Responsibilities – Criminology Graduate – SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with additional needs.
  • Support pupils with behaviour regulation, emotional wellbeing, and social development.
  • Assist teachers in delivering engaging and differentiated learning activities.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, independence, and confidence.
  • Help implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.

What We're Looking For

  • A degree in Criminology (or a closely related subject).
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, resilient, and proactive approach.
  • The ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • Experience working with children or vulnerable young people is desirable but not essential.

  • Role: Criminology Graduate – SEN Teaching Assistant
  • Location: Cheltenham
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Pay: £90-£105 per day (depending on experience)
  • Hours: Full-time, 8:30am-3:30pm
