Are you a mechanically-minded Design Engineer with experience in air technology, HVAC, ventilation, ducting or a closely related engineering environment?
Our client is looking to appoint a Design Engineer to join an established engineering team, supporting the design and delivery of bespoke technical systems for industrial and commercial customers. This is a varied office-based role, suited to someone who enjoys producing practical, accurate designs that can be manufactured, installed and delivered successfully on customer sites.
The successful candidate will have a strong mechanical design background, good AutoCAD 2D capability and the confidence to liaise with colleagues, suppliers and customers where required. Experience in HVAC, ventilation, ductwork, air movement, extraction or a similar engineered systems environment would be particularly valuable, although candidates with wider mechanical design experience will also be considered.
Job Description
As Design Engineer, your duties will include:
- Producing accurate 2D layout, manufacturing and installation drawings for engineered systems
- Supporting the development of practical design solutions from survey information, project requirements and technical specifications
- Preparing general arrangement drawings, fabrication details and associated parts information
- Assisting with site surveys and measurements alongside project, sales or engineering colleagues
- Liaising with suppliers to obtain pricing and technical information for manufactured components and bought-in items
- Supporting quality checks and documentation relating to drawings, designs and supplier-manufactured items
- Maintaining organised drawing records and working in line with internal design standards
- Providing wider engineering and project support as required by the Engineering Manager
Person Specification
We are looking for candidates with:
- Previous experience in a mechanical design, draughting or design engineering role
- A background in air technology, HVAC, ventilation, ducting, extraction, air movement or a related field would be highly advantageous
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D
- Experience producing fabrication, layout, installation or manufacturing drawings
- A recognised engineering qualification, ideally HNC level or equivalent
- Good communication skills and the confidence to work with internal teams, suppliers and customer-site stakeholders
- A practical approach to design, with an understanding of how drawings translate into manufacture and installation
- 3D CAD experience, particularly Inventor, would be beneficial but is not essential
This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established specialist engineering business offering a stable, technically interesting role with genuine variety. The position offers a salary of £30,000 – £42,000 depending on experience, along with benefits including a staff bonus scheme, enhanced pension contributions and holiday entitlement that increases with service. Occasional travel may be required for site visits or technical training.
